Dalam upaya untuk mendokumentasikan ragam motif tato masyarakat adat Mentawai, Pemerintah Kabupaten Kepulauan Mentawai menggagas suatu penyelenggaraan kompetisi kreatif dengan memberikan kesempatan kepada para kreator batik dan pengrajin motif tradisional untuk menggali, mengeksplorasi dan mencipta motif-motif tato mentawai menjadi motif-motif batik tato mentawai melalui proses stilisasi kreatif.

Pendaftaran sayembara tanggal 4 Juli - 2 Agustus 2013.
