Bertempat di Auditorium Gedung B Fasilkom UI, berlangsung sidang terbuka promosi doktor Fakultas Ilmu Komputer Universitas Indonesia. Herwanto, dengan judul disertasi “Sistem Pengenalan Pola Citra Mammogram, Data Individu, dan Patologi untuk Identifikasi Penyakit Kanker Payudara”, berhasil meraih gelar doktor di bidang ilmu komputer dengan yusdisium sangat memuaskan.

Sidang Promosi Doktor Herwanto yang berlangsung pada Kamis (13/2/2014) ini dipimpin oleh Dekan Fasilkom UI, Dra. Mirna Adriani, Ph.D dengan tim penguji Prof. Belawati H. Widjaja, Ph.D., Dr. Eng. Wisnu Jatmiko, Hizar Maruli Manurung, Ph.D., M. Ivan Fanany, Ph.D., dan dr. Fery Moertopo, Sp.Rad. Sementara itu, Prof. Dr. Ir. Aniati Murni Arymurthy, M.Sc. bertindaksebagai promotor dan Dr. drg. Indang Trihandini, M.Kes. sebagai kopromotor.

Dalam disertasinya, Herwantomembahas metode segmentasi dan analisis citra mammogram secara otomatis untuk melakukan klasifikasi kanker payudara jinak atau ganas. Kanker payudara adalah salah satu jenis kanker yang mematikan dan paling sering menyerang perempuan. Kematian akibat kanker ini sering terjadi salah satunya akibat keterlambatan diagnosis yang akhirnya berimbas pada keterlambatan pengobatan. Penelitian Herwanto mampu memberikan kemudahan kepada dokter radiologi untuk melakukan pendeteksian dini dan pemberian informasi tentang tumor melalui citra mammogram, data individu, dan data patalogi.

Proses identifikasi melalui sistem ini diawali dengan meningkatkan kualitas citra diikuti dengan peregangan kontras. Tahapan tersebut bertujuan untuk memperbaiki kualitas citra dan mendapatkan sebaran intensitas yang seragam untuk semua citra mammogram. (IRH)
