Sebagian mahasiswa Departemen Teknik Kimia Fakultas Teknik Universitas Indonesia (FT UI) mengadakan acara seminar dengan tema “Energy Conservation for Better Society” pada Kamis (28/02) di Ruang Chevron, Gedung Dekanat FT UI. Dalam seminar ini hadir dua pembicara, yaitu Prof. Dr. Iwa Garniwa dari Departemen Teknik Elektro FT UI yang juga menjabat sebagai Direktur Pengkajian Energi FT UI dan Prof. Dr. Ir. Widodo Wahyu Purwanto, D.E.A.dari Departemen Teknik Kimia FT UI, serta yang bertindak sebagai moderator adalah Dr. Ing. Ir. Misri Gozan M.Tech. dari Departemen Teknik Kimia FT UI.

Pembicara pertama Prof. Iwa Garniwa memberikan materi “Strategi Konservasi Energi Listrik Menuju Ketahanan Energi Nasional”. Energi adalah bagian yang sangat penting dalam mewujudkan pembangunan nasional berkelanjutan sehingga pengelolaan energi harus dilaksanakan dengan prinsip-prinsip keadilan, berkelanjutan, rasional, optimal, terpadu, serta bersifat jangka panjang selama beberapa dekade ke depan dengan mempertimbangkan berbagai sumber energi.

Ketahanan energi nasional menurut Prof. Iwa garniwa bisa dilihat dari 2 sisi kebijakan, yaitu kebijakan sisi penawaran dan kebijakan sisi permintaan serta isu lingkungan hidup. Dilihat dari kebijakan sisi penawaran, kondisi pengelolaan energi di Indonesia masih bisa dibilang belum adil. Misalnya dalam pengelolaan listrik di Jawa Madura dan Bali (JAMALI) di mana batu bara yang digunakan berasal dari Kalimantan dan Sumatera. JAMALI menikmati pertumbuhan ekonomi karena energi listrik yang besar sementara Kalimantan dan Sumatera yang menjadi sumber batu bara untuk listrik JAMALI masih sering mengalami pemadaman. Kemudian dari kebijakan sisi permintaan, diperlukan komite energi yang melakukan audit energi pada berbagai perusahaan serta diperlukan standarisasi dan labeling terhadap berbagai produk kelistrikan.

Kemudian pembicara kedua, Prof. Widodo memaparkan materi “Energy in Sustainable Building”. Secara garis besar, guru besar yang biasa disapa Prof. Wid ini membahas penggunaan energi di suatu bangunan atau rumah dalam kehidupan rumah tangga, misalnya listrik untuk penerangan, peralatan elektronik, dan pompa air. Beberapa hal yang menjadi perhatian adalah sistem HVAC (Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning, Low Carbon Technology), antara lain bagaimana mendesain bangunan dengan ventilasi yang nyaman tanpa AC dan bagaimana menggunakan sumber-sumber energi ramah lingkungan seperti energi angin dan panas matahari sehingga mengarah pada zero emission building.
