TODAI Innovation Summer Program

The University of Tokyo (Todai in Japanese) will hold its TODAI Innovation Summer Program from 1 to13 August 2013. The summer program is co-organized by the Center for Knowledge Structuring and The University of Tokyo International Relations Institution of Students (UT-IRIS)
During the two-week program, students from outside Japan and the University of Tokyo, will attend classes, workshops and field research in Tokyo and the Tohoku region designed to hone their skills to innovate and solve social problems. The entire program is built upon themes which are uniquely Japanese, such as Japan’s vibrant pop culture and recovery efforts in the disaster-stricken areas in Northeast Japan.
Todai is now accepting applications from international students. Applications can be done online at http://ischool.t.u-tokyo.ac.jp/summer/. The applications (for non-Todai students) will close 15 April.

Number of participants: 30 international students and 30 Todai students

Eligibility: Students who are enrolled in colleges, master’s program or PhD program, including those who will graduate in June 2013.

Program Proceedings and Activities: The program in Tokyo offers two parallel courses, i.school workshops and case-method classes with each course consisting three modules.

Sites: August 1 – 9, University of Tokyo’s Hongo campus; August 10-13: Otsuchi- cho, Iwate prefecture, Tohoku region (Arriving in Tokyo early morning of 14 August)

Fees: Participants are to pay for their own airfare, daily meals and other incidental expenses. All other costs (tuition fees, accommodation, group meals and travelling expenses for the visit to Otsuchi-cho)are covered by the program.
