Badan Eksekutif Mahasiswa Fakultas Ilmu Pengetahuan Budaya Universitas Indonesia (BEM FIB UI) menyelenggarakan Grand Launching Saung Sastra bertemakan "Kesederhanaan dalam Kebermanfaatan", pada hari Sabtu (26/05/2012) di Masjid Al-Bahar, Pemukiman Pemulung, Jalan Proklamasi, Kelurahan Abadi Jaya, Kecamatan Sukmajaya, Depok, Jawa Barat. Grand Launching Saung Sastra ini merupakan bagian dari sosialisasi pentingnya pendidikan di daerah Pemukiman Pemulung.

Saung Sastra merupakan community development yang berfokus dalam bidang pendidikan anak usia Sekolah Dasar. Kurikulum dalam Saung Sastra dirancang sedemikian rupa sehingga peserta didik merasa nyaman dan senang dalam belajar, baik pelajaran formal maupun non-formal. "Visi dari Saung Sastra ini adalah satu pengabdian, berjuta manfaat dalam masyarakat", ujar Kepala Departemen Sosial Masyarakat BEM FIB UI 2012 Arif Nur Setiawan.

Dalam perjalanannya, Saung Sastra telah berusia tiga tahun. Namun ditahun ketiga ini Saung Sastra akan memulai perubahan, yaitu dalam hal sumber daya manusia, kurukulum, dan program-program pendukung. Kami percaya dengan program kerja yang bernama Saung Sastra ini merupakan langkah strategis pergerakan pemuda dalam hal pendidikan berkarakter, yang nantinya bermuara pada pendidikan bangsa yang berkualitas dan memiliki daya saing dikancah nasional maupun internasional.
