Salah satu mata kuliah di jurusan Teknik Kimia Universitas Indonesia berbeda dengan kuliah pada umumnya. Jika mahasiswa biasanya mengalami perkuliahan yang hanya diisi dengan presentasi dari dosen dan ujian saja, tidak dengan mata kuliah pilihan Fotokatalis ala Prof.Dr.Ir. Slamet M.T. Metode pembelajaran pada kuliah ini menerapkan research based learning (RBL). Mahasiswa dipacu untuk belajar dengan melakukan riset mengenai apa mereka pelajari mengacu pada jurnal-jurnal internasional terkini yang bebas diunduh melalui intranet kampus UI.
