Tim bulu tangkis UI akhirnya mampu menundukkan tim bulu tangkis Universitas Malaya 4-1 dalam acara Biennial Intervarsity Games di Gymnasium UI (8/7). Acara dua tahunan ini diikuti oleh 4 universitas di Asia Pasifik yaitu National University of Singapore(NUS), University of Macau (UMAC), University of Malaya (UM), dan Universitas Indonesia (UI).

Kemenangan pertama diraih oleh atlet UI -Lukmanul Hakim- atas atlet Universitas Malaya -Choong Bie Kien- yang sempat tertinggal di set pertama dengan skor 11-21, 21-18, 21-13. Atlet bulutangkis putri UI, Santika Aristi, juga meraih kemenangan pertamanya dengan sabar setelah tertinggal di set pertama menghadapi atlet UM, Tham Yee Ning, dengan skor 14-21, 21-19, 21-17.

Pertandingan selanjutnya, baik tim putra maupun tim putri dengan mudah bisa menundukkan atlet-atlet Universitas Malaya. Atlet-atlet tim bulutangkis Universitas Malaya pada pertandingan sebelumnya telah "mencukur" habis tim bulutangkis Universitas Macau dengan telak tanpa perlawanan dengan skor 5-0.

Luluk Hadyanto menjadi sorotan dalam pertandingan karena mantan atlet nasional bergabung sebagai atlet bulutangkis UI. Mas Luluk, panggilan akrabnya, bermain dua kali melawan Universitas Malaya. Pertandingan pertama, berpasangan dengan Ridwansyah Rivany melawan Datu Sahadan dan Datu Moksin menang 2 set langsung dengan skor 21-17, 21-18. Pertandingan kedua, bermain single melawan Mohd Yusmadi. Dengan mudahnya, Mas Luluk memenangkan pertandingan dengan skor 21-12, 21-11. (HDI)
