Pada Sabtu (24/8) pagi, lebih dari 75 mahasiswa baru Universitas Indonesia (UI) bersama para anggota Komando Pasukan Khusus (Kopassus) TNI AD menyusuri Sungai Ciliwung sejauh 7 sampai 8 kilometer. Tak hanya datang dan melihat-lihat, rombongan tersebut juga punya kegiatan utama yaitu membersihkan Sungai Ciliwung. Selain mahasiswa baru, turut andil dalam kegiatan tersebut sejumlah anggota Mahasiswa Pecinta Alam (Mapala) UI.

Jalur yang dilewati yaitu mulai dari aliran sungai di sekitar Jalan Raya Akses UI sampai Cijantung, Jakarta Timur. Dengan 15 perahu karet, life jacket, sejumlah skipper (juru mudi perahu karet) dan petugas keselamatan, rombongan yang secara keseluruhan berjumlah lebih dari 100 orang itu akan melintasi sungai yang membelah ibukota Jakarta tersebut.

Kondisi Sungai Ciliwung saat ini sudah sangat tercemar sehingga sangat berisiko banjir dan membahayakan masyarakat di sekitarnya. Kegiatan ini diharapkan dapat menumbuhkan kesadaran mahasiswa untuk bersama-sama menjaga lingkungan, salah satunya dengan tidak membuang sampah di sungai. (KHN)
