Indonesia merupakan negara kepulauan. Banyaknya pulau yang dimiliki mencerminkan beragamnya budaya yang ada. Salah satu kepulauan yang terkenal di Indonesia adalah kepulauan Mentawai yang merupakan bagian dari provinsi Sumatera Barat. Kepulauan yang dikelilingi oleh Samudra Hindia ini memiliki berbagai ragam budaya yang kemudian menarik para mahasiswa Departemen Arsitek Universitas Indonesia (UI) untuk dikunjungi.
